Lesson Content Providers

Civic Learning Threads does not provide original lesson content—there are many resources out there, some paid, some free. The providers below are non-partisan, and endorsed by Civic Learning Threads as standards-aligned activities that we specifically align to civic learning plans.

We the People

Published by the Center for Civic Education, a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization. Their We the People program serves K-5 social studies up through civics themes within U.S. History and any stand-alone civics or government course for middle school through advanced and high school. It is a paid, but affordable program.

iCivics Education

Open source. Focused on the civics or government course, and civics themes within U.S. History. To lesser degree, there are civic learning lessons that fit into economics or world history courses. It is published by iCivics, a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization.

Democratic Knowledge Project

The Democratic Knowledge Project is an initiative of the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Their DKP Curriculum Portal is focused on themes in a typical civics or social studies course. The web site says the lessons plans are accessible at 5th and 8th grade levels according to Massachusetts standards, but much of it is rigorous enough to be appropriate for many high school courses.
